BUILDING CONFIDENCE AFTER 50
CONFIDENCE.
We see and hear this mysterious word everywhere.
But why it is so important?
Some say it’s the key to being happy and the best tool for success.
As an award-winning life coach Lindsey Hood notes in her study: “Having confidence has many benefits, but according to her research, the main reasons are that people stop fearing judgment from others, value their own opinions, and fully show up as their true, authentic selves. People who identify as being confident have a good posture and positive energy or vibe about them.”
Did you know that self-esteem peaks at around the age of 60 and then starts to decline?
Unfortunately, for us women, our physical appearance often determines how confident we are, therefore when talking about self-esteem, most of us focus on what’s happening physically with our body, skin, health…
But there is so much more to focus on than just the changes happening in our bodies.
There are many ways to help boost your confidence levels and today we will focus on them…
Step out of your comfort zone!
Give yourself a challenge
Choose something that inspires you!
When deciding to take upon a challenge, make sure it brings you joy, pleasure and is something you love. Don’t force yourself to do things you don’t like.
Finishing that challenge will you give a satisfactory feeling, thus releasing dopamine–the “feel good” chemical messenger in your body. It helps us focus, find things interesting, and plays a big role in how we feel pleasure.
Start with something small, like meditation twice a week for a month. Maybe you’ve been wanting to live healthier and want to create a productive morning routine–challenge yourself to stick to it for 2 weeks. Try a new recipe once a week.
There are no limitations!
Just think of something you’ve been wanting to do and go for it NOW! No hesitation.
Try something new
Doing something you’ve never done before seems scary at first, but the feeling when you get over your fear and limitations is empowering!
It’s easy to fall into a routine. But you finally have more time for yourself, so don’t give in to the idea of sleeping on the couch. There are so many things in life you can still learn and try. Don’t be afraid to live to the fullest!
Try out new things that excite you. Take up a new language, try out makeup tutorials from YouTube, spend time with your girlfriends, find a new hobby! That way, you will build more courage and more confidence within.
Devoting your time to try out new things will make you happier and more energetic.
It takes courage to try new things. Even if you fail at something in the beginning–don’t give up. Getting over failure and succeeding at something new will boost your confidence to a new level!
Stand up for yourself
Unpleasant topics, difficult conversations, resentment...
When it comes to talking about these things or “letting it go” for the sake of peace, most people would choose to not indulge in a confrontational situation and stay silent.
But we need to stand up for ourselves!
It doesn’t mean that we always need to argue with everyone to prove our rights but talking about how we feel goes a long way towards bettering relationships with ourselves and the people around us.
Even when it’s scary – don’t hold everything inside. Think about the things you want to say or how a certain situation has made you feel. Write it down. You can even practice voicing your opinion and feelings out loud and build the courage to have un unpleasant conversation.
You will see that with time these things won’t be so unpleasant to you. And your confidence level and self-esteem will rise, as you continuously choose to speak up for yourself proving that you value and love yourself.
The courage you get will make your confidence skyrocket. ❤️
